Location: Lennox Head, NSW Australia

Date: 2006

Time Taken: approximately 5 months of painting

Materials Used: acrylic exterior house paint, airbrush, hand brush, and sponge

Size: 500 square meters (over 5,300 square feet)

Instigation: This was entirely my idea, I proposed it to the local community and council, funding was provided by Ballina Council for materials, insurance and equipment only.  Over 2 years of researching the local history, flora and fauna and planning through proposals.  Most reference materials came from the local libraries and my own photographs.

Inspiration: On first arrival to that area I was completely captivated by the stunning beauty of the area... so green, lush and natural... and then there was this huge, ugly concrete tank in a high traffic area that just looked soooo out of place and really didn't do the surrounding environment any favors.  It was a perfect canvas... though I had nooooo idea at that time, 2 years later, I was going to tackle it on my own.

Other info:  At the time this was, my biggest project to date and involved a lot of learning process.  Before beginning on the tank, my airbrushing experience was limited to only a few surfboards.  The entire tank was painted by eye, no grids or projections, and almost entirely from a mobile scaffolding tower that was over 3 stories tall.
